The National Assembly of McMUNCH is one of the two houses (chambers) of the Parliament of McMUNCH. It is referred to as the lower house, with the Senate being referred to as the upper house. The term in office of members of the National Assembly is a maximum of two years. A member of the House may be referred to as a "Member of Parliament" ("MP" or "Member"), while a member of the Senate is usually referred to as a "Senator".
The present Parliament is the 2nd Federal Parliament of McMUNCH. The most recent federal election was held on 10 March 2073. The governing Munch Republic Party won a supermajority, winning 74 seats out of 88. The minority consists of the Social Democratic Party of McMUNCH (12 seats), Workers Party of McMUNCH (1 seat) and one independent.
The National Assembly currently consists of 88 members, elected by and who represent single member districts, known as electorates (commonly referred to as "seats"). The number of members is not fixed, but can vary with boundary changes resulting from electoral redistributions, which are not required on a regular basis due to the state-sanctioned gerrymandering law. Each electorate elects one member using the first-past-the-post voting system.
